Ok si I got a pretty long post and I'll break it down into different paragraphs dont read if your not interested:
Almost all of the 99-02 Volvo's have ETM problems (Electronic Throttle Module) there was a recall but its kind of like the army, don't ask don't tell. So unless you read Volvo forums alot you probably don't know about the recall. What happens is that the car stalls, surges, dies anywhere anytime. Really dangerous, imagine parking in front of a store and all of a sudden the car just jumps and runs into the store.... anyways
So about 2-3 months ago I go to Volvo Laval to ask if the recall was done because I had a few symptoms (engine shaking, lights dimming and glowing intermitently). The guy tells me yes the recall has already been done in May 2008 (don't know if the part has been replaced or just cleaned or wtv) and he tells me theres nothing that can be done, I didn't insist, I just left, after all it wasn't too bad just some engine shaking...
Well now about 4-5 weeks ago my car lost power while on the highway I don't know what happenned but it backfired and stalled. So 1- I unplugged the MAF. This helped me get home and let me drive the car to school, the turbos didnt spool and I had no power and very bad gas mileage but hey... I have to go to school. 2- I replaced the MAF.... same thing happens.. 3- I went to a very good garage in Laval and the guy charged me 100$ to clean my injectors and clean the throttle body. At this point I could drive with my MAF wired and the turbos spooled, had a bit more power, BUT now the car surges and stalls sometimes.
BTW: Whenever I went to Volvo Laval (had to buy corner lights and other goodies, get some information) I always felt like I was disturbing the staff and I wasn't wanted, they really didn't like helping their customers... unlike at Ford, Mazda and Honda wich are "lower end" vehicles, yet they have excellent customer service and class.
So I call Volvo Canada, I tell them my problem and how my car is a real danger right now and j'en ai profiter to make a complaint. The guy on the phone tells me its ok for the ETM recall, just go to my() Volvo dealership and they will diagnose it, and replace the ETM if its the problem, if it's something else they will tell me what it is and how to get rid of the problem. The guy had a hard time being clear about if I would have to pay for the diagnostic or not, I coldn't get a clear answer because whenever I asked they just went on and on and on, but it sounded like it would be free.
So today me and G-Bus go to Volvo Laval to schedule an appointment, the receptionist tells us that maybe the director (Frank) is aware of the situation and to talk directly to him. At this point it seemed like I would get my diagnostic and replace the faulty ETM they installed that keeps failing year after year. So I go to carrefour while I wait for the director to come back from wherever he was.
I call him first to make sure he is there, he tells me on the phone ( I was in the car couldn't hear shit ) why he won't replace my ETM, I tell him I'm right in front of the dealership I'd rather talk to you in person. So I go see him in his office, he doesn't even ask me to take a seat so after waiting I just decide by myself I'll sit down and talk. This is where it gets really bad:
So I let him know about my story, why my car is dangerous and why I should get the ETM replaced (there was a recall issued, and less than a year later that same part failed). He interrupts me all the time, telling me about how my warranty is expired (it hasn't even been a year yet). Then G-Bus tries to explain he tells G-Bus "What, wait, Who are you? (T'es qui toi?)" he said it atleast twice. He interrupts me doesn't give a damn what I'm saying and asks me "Tes qui toi?" again. Then he tells me that I'm wasting his time and I tell him "is that why you are being arrogant" and he tells me to leave NOW. Then I went a bit berzerk and I told him some not so nice stuff. After 1 month of fighting with Volvo I had to let some out especially after such an arrogant and unpleasant person.
To SUM IT UP:
- Car had ETM replaced less than a year ago UNDER A RECALL (this part fails massively in every 99-02 Volvos)
- Not even a year later my car stalls, runs bad and is a danger
- Tech tells me there is nothing he can do and doesn't tell me why
- I call Volvo Canada make a complain and finally get to take an appointment
- I call Volvo Laval to get an appointment and the director tells me he will not change the defective part that failed not even a year later under a recall.
- Director is really inpolite and arrogant, and tells us to leave.
- I get mad and I have a dangerous car and I don't know what to do with it...
J'aimerais savoir si il y a quelque chose que je peux faire au moin pour rendre ma voiture sécuritaire et je ne pairait pas 1500$ pour une piece qui va briser encore dans 1 ans...
merci les gars.
