  • 2003 v70awd VS xc70..what's better?differences?

Hi everyone, we're looking around for a second car and want to stick with volvo..presently i found 2 cars...both are 2003 one is a v70awd 2.5T and the other a xc70 same year, about the same milage between the two...and almost same in price...
what are the major differences between the two? are they both expensive to repair? what would you recommend? are there things i should look out for? thanks

Hello and welcome in the family!

Basiquely you talk about the same car ex.: Same body, same engine. But the XC is a little bit higher (outback think) compare to the standard V70 and eventualy you will get the same problem:

    Rear Bearing (all AWD Volvo)
    Minor direction think (all volvo)

You realy have to drive the two car to compare and get rigorous inspection, by a Volvo pro, on each one

    Good luck!

      kearmith..thanks for the reply...
well the thing is that the xc70 is being sold by a volvo garage specialist while the v70awd is being sold by an authorized volvo canada dealership....i kinda have a bit more faith in them, plus they might have all the serive/recall records on hand...more info is always better i say..where as with the xc70 i don't have squat!

Where ever the car come... Inspection needed!!!

Both car are used with short restricted waranty (1 months).

Drive both car to compare the feeling, because of the outback think (XC 70) it's two diferent car!

In theory, they are both similar cars...

But because you are not looking at new cars, but rather used cars, the two cars can be very, very different...

Your best bet would be to drive both of them, have both inspected, and then compare the two...

You already have a V70, so you know how that drives (or should drive, if you compare yours with the used one), so spend a little more time driving the XC70 to see if you like it...

I personally prefer the V70, as it is a lower, sportier drive...

But the XC70 was our best seller, so people obviously like something about it! It's the fact that it's higher, and feels more like an SUV, while retaining the safer feel of a car...

RJ..you the best...i agree, i really like the drive and feel of my v70... and holnestly, i've never really been a fan of the plastic stuff of the xc70...
hmm it's a tough call, but the car is not for me but for my wife...
an term of maint/repairs, are they really much worst then a FWd model? anthing i should look out for in this year? I looked around the xc70 today...the right headlight wiper doesn't work, hand brake doesn't work..i'm not surethanks Rj.

kearmith...have you driven both these cars? do you find the xc70 drives more like an suv then a car? i have a 2006 v70 2.5t fwd and i like the feel of it...not sure if my wife will like the higher, truck-like feel on the xc70? hmmm...

My brother (Marc) own a V70 2005 and I have a XC70 2006 with the Four-C suspension. He tried it with the Four-C in "Sport" mode and found it is similar than his V70. But the XC70 is softer than the V70 with the "Confort" mode.

So if you are looking for a XC70, maybe you should consider the Four-C and test both suspension mode on a road test.

I didn't drive it on long distance. But I like sport think. I drove a R and I have fix a drop on my V40. I'm not sur that my appreciation is the same for me than for you. But I think the XC 70 is a mi-range between full SUV and standard V70.

Mario say's right about the FOUR C, just one more point about the feeling when you drive in curve, because the XC come with a big tire and you can get low profil on stanard V70 (with 17" optional wheel)
